The LEVITRON® floating top can spin for up to 4 minutes (sometimes longer) because it only touches air. The Perpetuator® device is an electromagnet that transfers a slight amount of energy to the top - allowing it to overcome air friction and remain afloat. The Perpetuator® device works with all versions of the LEVITRON® base magnets sold here.
The Perpetuator need not actually contact the Levitron base magnet on top. In fact, the Levitron base plus the Perpetuator can be concealed under a table resulting in the top's apparent levitation using no visible means for support!
