The Original Gyroscope has been around for many years. Its ability to defy gravity and not tip over can be baffling. The Original Gyroscope can do much more than spin on a pedestal. It can dance on a tightrope or balance on the lip of a glass. This mysterious behavior is a result of conservation of angular momentum from the interior spinning gyro. This same principle is what keeps your bicycle balanced. It’s also used within navigational equipment for satellites, airplanes and space shuttles because while your airplane may tilt up, down, left or right, the spinning gyroscope will always try to stay right side up giving you a reference.

Here’s a simple way to understand what’s going on. Think about a large spinning top. If you press down near the edge with a pen, the whole top will want to move downward – not just the side you pressed on. Why? Notice the pen has drawn a circle along the edge of the top. This is because the pen has actually pushed down along all sides of the top.
